Los Angeles Employment Programs & Services for Veterans
The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is on a mission to serve California veterans and their families. CalVet strives to ensure that California veterans of every era and their families get the state and federal benefits and services they have earned and deserve as a result of their honorable military service.
Goodwill Southern California’s Veteran employment program is dedicated solely to assisting veterans throughout Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Unemployed veterans in Los Angeles are offered a host of helpful services, and are supported by Program Specialists who are former vets themselves. Veteran Employment Program advisors offer skills assessments, one-on-one career counseling, employment preparation courses, educational and technical skills classes, and work tools as well as access to a host of other partner services, including shelter and housing assistance.
3.) JVS Veterans First
JVS Veterans First is dedicated to helping veterans transition from military to civilian life. They do this by providing individual coaching, combined with resources and referrals to meet the unique needs of each veteran. The program provides professional career coaching, assessments to help identify interests, strengths and skills, job placement assistance, and Battle Buddy Groups for networking and support.
4.) LA County Department of Public Social Services: Veteran Employment Resources
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) serves an ethnically and culturally diverse community through programs designed to alleviate hardship and promote health, personal responsibility, and economic independence. Their services include temporary financial assistance and employment services for veterans and their families.
Los Angeles County’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) in partnership with the Department of Human Resources (DHR), seeks to enhance employment opportunities for Los Angeles veterans. The program helps assist veterans and their families to pursue jobs with the County of Los Angeles. The internship program offers paid, full-time temporary employment which provides on-the-job training and work experience to qualified veterans.
The MCS Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) program encourages local Los Angeles businesses to hire veterans as a first choice. VETS gives both veterans and transitioning service members the resources and services to succeed in the 21st century workforce by maximizing their employment/training opportunities. VETS does this by protecting veterans’ employment rights and meeting labor-market demands with qualified veterans, including the hiring disabled veterans.
Since 1992, New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) has provided comprehensive services to thousands of veterans in Los Angeles County. NDVets offers a wide array of services, including job training and placement. Veterans who use the programs leave NDVets with a savings account, housing, a job or other income, computer skills, renewed self-confidence and the support of mentors and peers.
The Salvation Army Haven Veterans Employment Services Program has been providing quality employment services exclusively to unemployed and underemployed Los Angeles veterans since 2009. The program helps veterans leverage their veteran status, passions and skills to stand out in front of HR recruiters and hiring managers. Whether you’re just returning from service, or if you’ve been unemployed for a longer period of time, veterans of all ranks, and even those without work experience can benefit.
9.) Volunteers of America HVRP
Volunteers of America’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program HVRP (also known as Helping Veterans Receive Paychecks) helps ensure that male and female veterans receive the employment and training services they need to get good, sustainable jobs. The programs offer job counseling, resume preparation, job placement, and follow-up. HVRP also provides immediate transitional housing on-site and through referrals to VOALA Pathways to Home.
